Arnie Preminger

Arnie Preminger, MSW, has been a leader in the JCC movement for the past 34 years, having begun his career as a youth worker and camp counselor in the Bronx in 1976. For the past 25 years, Arnie has served as the Chief Executive Officer for the Barry & Florence Friedberg JCC, and is credited with spearheading the phenomenal growth of what was once a struggling agency in rented space into its current incarnation as the only full-service Jewish Community Center on the south shore of Long Island, boasting a membership base of over 8,000 individuals as well as myriad innovative programs from day care through senior adults.

Arnie is CEO of Sunrise Day Camp which he founded in 2005—the only full-service, dedicated day camp in the world for children with cancer and their siblings. An initiative of the Friedberg JCC and supported by UJA-Federation, Sunrise quickly expanded its services to include year-round activities, hospital visitations, and bringing camp activities into outpatient clinics at affiliated hospitals. Arnie was featured in 2009 as a WABC-TV Eyewitness News Hero; both he and the Sunrise project have been featured on television, radio, and print media for its ground-breaking approach to working with seriously ill children.

Barry & Florence Friedberg JCC

The Friedberg JCC has been serving Long Island’s South Shore community for over 49 years and is celebrating its 10th anniversary in the Harry & Jeanette Weinberg building on Neil Court. Located in Oceanside, with branches in Merrick/Bellmore and Long Beach, the JCC promotes Jewish life and values by providing programs and services in a warm and caring environment for thousands of people in every stage of life.

Sunrise Day Camp

One of many stellar programs of the Friedberg JCC, Sunrise Day Camp makes it possible for children with cancer and their siblings to enjoy a summer filled with fun, friendships and joyful experiences while paying careful attention to their special medical and emotional needs. Entering its fifth season, the JCC is proud to be giving hundreds of children the opportunity to attend this remarkable camp and year-round programs, completely free of charge.
