Irv Varkonyi, a child of Holocaust survivors has dedicated much of his adult life to Jewish causes and the memory of those lost in the Shoah. He has been an active member of Congregation Olam Tikvah's Men's Club since 1996, including a term as Club President. Afterwards, he joined the  board of Seaboard FJMC  and eventually succeeded his good friend, Norman Soroko as Regional President.  During his term as President, the region held its first Retreat in the year between International conferences. This retreat has grown greatly over the years. He and his Seaboard team also revitalized the Annual Blue Yarmulke Man of the Year dinner and breakfast by successfully growing the event to include twenty clubs throughout Maryland, Virginia and Washington, DC. Irv continues as an active member of the OT Men's Club with active support of their annual Candidates Election Brunch which has increasingly drawn elected officials at all levels including Governors, US Senators, Virginia Senators and Delegates and number elected officials and candidates in Fairfax County. He brings local personalities and representatives of other organizations to Brunches on topics of importance to Israel and the US.

Outside of Men's Clubs activities, Irv is active as a member of the George Mason University Hillel Community Board.  He also served on the board of the Jewish Community Relations Council of Greater Washington. Each year, he participates in the JCRC annual Yom Hashoa remembrance, lighting a candle for his parents. In addition to Jewish organizations, Irv is on the board of the Virginia Interfaith Center for Public Policy which advocates for social, criminal and environmental issues, representing faith based organizations throughout Virginia.

Irv is the happy spouse of Leslie, soon to be celebrating their 42nd wedding anniversary. He gains much joy from his daughter Julie and her family with Chris and three children, with the most recent born just a few weeks ago. His son, Peter, is just married recently to Lauren. Irv is proud to be a part of the Seaboard family, to have known so many friends and their spouses as well as his friends at Olam Tikvah including Rabbis Kalender and Ravski, and a number Congregational Presidents over the years.
