Carol Scharff is a backbone of our community.  Carol has encouraged the flourishing of our congregation through her timeless devotion, having served as temple president, vice president, sisterhood president, and a member of our youth and school boards, She continues to support our congregation by welcoming us all to services and special events, arranging our onegs, reading with our nursery schoolers, and attending chevra, in addition to her many board and committee meetings.

Do Jews believe in a messiah, a saviour, who will bring redemption to a deserving world?  In fact, we do...And though there are many arguments, especially among progressive Jews, about how such a messianic figure will manifest, I have insider info about who this harbinger of hope might be...

Though nowadays she's the grand dame of LT life for the current generation, Carol was the youngest person ever to serve as president, and the singular leader who steered our congregation in a covenantal direction when dissension may have torn us apart.  And as she's done for nearly five decades, by reminding us why we are here--to take care of each other while making our world more humane and just--Carol is our compass.  Maybe she, herself, is not the messiah, but her guiding presence is a godsend that helps us sustain and daily save our world. Carol makes LT's Covenant real.

To Carol with Love

Congratulations to the matriarch of our family and our endless fount of love and support. We are sustained through her encouragement, concern and unconditional love for each of us, and for all of us together. From the time she was a young girl gently guiding her sisters, she has shared her seemingly limitless love and optimism and welcomed us and our extended families into her heart and home.

That same warmth embraces her other home and family as well--

Larchmont Temple--where she has given decades of devoted service and leadership. She has been the welcome wagon, long-term leader, wise counsel and dear friend for the congregation and clergy, their children and their children's children. These roles have expanded her life and given her

great joy. She is so rare... and we are all so fortunate.
