The Rabbi Pesach Raymon Yeshiva is honored to present the Community Service Award to Shifra and David Zelingher, devoted members of the RPRY community, who have given generously of their time and talents in support of the school’s mission. Shifra and David have long been tied to Jewish institutions of New Jersey.

 

David grew up in Marlboro/Morganville, where he was active in NCSY and was a member of the first boys’ graduating class of the Moshe Aaron Yeshiva High School. Shifra, a native of Staten Island, is an alumna of Bruriah High School in Elizabeth. Now the proud parents of three current RPRY students—fifth-graders Joey and Sammy and preschool student Debbie—Shifra and David can frequently be seen in the halls of RPRY serving as volunteers for a variety of school functions. Shifra, who works as an accountant for eScribers, is such a consistent volunteer lunch-server on Wednesdays that she has earned the title “Most Reliable Server.” In his professional life, David works as Business Operations Director for CIENA Communications, where he has primary responsibility for the day-to-day business operations for the company’s largest account, AT&T. David has served as head of the Central Jersey Floor Hockey League (CJFHL) program and as JV basketball assistant coach at RPRY in early spring 2020. In addition, he developed the EduKit program, which lightens the burden of school-supply shopping for parents and serves as a fundraiser for RPRY PLUS, the school’s parent organization.

 

Beyond the walls of RPRY, David and Shifra are active in Congregation Ohav Emeth as members of essential committees.  David is also past president of Congregation Ahavas Yisrael of Edison, a current member of the Edison Township Ethics Board, and a former dispatcher for Hatzolah of Middlesex County. Shifra is active in mentorship of adults, parents, and children who have Xeroderma Pigmentosum, a rare condition that she has had since birth. David is also moderator of the Frum HP/Edison Facebook group, an important tool for sharing information within the community.
